Thomas Lee McKeithan II
Webster’s defines the word “obstacle” as meaning “something that obstructs or hinders progress.” Thomas McKeithan’s own definition of the word flies in the face society’s norm. For him, each and every obstacle is truly an opportunity. Born prematurely which resulted in blindness, Thomas has excelled at all he’s attempted.
While receiving his education in the District of Columbia school system where he was part of their special education program for students with disabilities, he simultaneously honed his piano skills playing at church. His calling as a leader became apparent when he was elected president of the student government at Stewart Hobson Middle School. McKeithan has been blessed to participate in many notable events and has received countless awards. He was the Guest Artist for the Living Legacy Awards banquet honoring the late Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall and for the National Black Caucus for Women Banquet and he was selected to read former President George Bush's message to the President's Committee on Employment of People With Disabilities. He was also chosen to give an oral tribute to former President George Bush for the signing and passage of the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) and was tapped as the Guest Artist for the Defense Mapping Agency's Dr. Martin Luther King Program.
Always an entrepreneur at heart, Thomas established McKeithan Properties and Consulting, LLC, in February 2008. The company provides residential property management, organization and business development; musical accompaniment and career development services. Between 2001 and 2010, McKeithan served as the Senior Musician for the Star of Bethlehem Church of God in Christ. Currently, he’s the Minister of Music at Mt. Calvary Holy Evangelistic Church in Washington, D.C.
The husband of Candice and the father of two children, Thomas McKeithan has a true passion for the gifts God has given Him. “Musically, I want to be that recording artist or organist that is called upon when people want anointed playing,” shares Thomas. “Anybody can play the keys and tickle them to make them sound nice, but there is a difference between good playing and anointed playing. In this life, there are so many obstacles that are set before me, but through God’s grace and favor,” says Thomas, “I know that God will get me through”.
